Otherside Adventure Camp 2020
Summer 2020 is sold out with the exception of session 8 which overlaps Monroe County back to school. If you'd like your child to be added to the waitlist, or to get an inside scoop for summer 2021, please email Shana@othersideboardsports.com
While we are taking this pandemic very seriously, we also believe that good heath includes healthy foods, fresh outdoor salty air and exercise for the mind and body. Therefore, we will plan on running summer camps per usual. We have lowered the camp capacity and added additional weeks to keep groups smaller. Equipment and hand sanitation will be added to our daily routine, multiple times a day. Because of the uncertainty that comes along with living through this virus, Otherside is unable to guarantee that state and local governments' restrictions and guidelines will not impede our camps. Any paid camp sessions that are not completed due to virus restrictions will become store credit. We appreciate you understanding both the risks and rewards for everyone involved.*

What and Why......
5 awesome days, 5 different adventures.
This is no ordinary summer camp. Not only will your child have a blast, they will also be learning new skills including; how to work with and depend on each other & how to conquer many obstacles they once feared trying. Maximum of 12 kids per session (10 for summer 2020) ensures that every child will have the support they need to be successful. This camp is meant to be challenging, yet attainable and educational yet fun. We go beyond physical outdoor fun & education; broaching environmental issues & we also place a strong emphasis on positivity while building teamwork, communication, and problem solving skills through fun activities.
A look at camp activities:
Day 1: KITEBOARDING & SAILING- A quick lesson in wind theory, sailing basics & boating etiquette before teams of 3-4; take to the seas for Piratey games aboard Hobie Cats that are quick and lively. Each child building the courage to take the lead and sail the team. Then the children will learn the basics of kiteboarding as we explore the 'power zone' with trainer kites on the beach.
Worry not- your child will be closely supervised by certified kiteboarding and sailing instructors at all times.
If the wind doesn't cooperate, we switch gears to underwater education, focusing on safe freediving technique and exploring the reefs with one of the great snorkeling operations in Islamoarada.
Day 2: WAKEBOARDING- Our cable park on Grassy Key is the easiest way to learn to wakeboard. Add in our seasoned instructors and the support of their peers, and our campers always feel accomplished after learning this new skill. Building on teamwork by supporting each others successes & failures and building one another up to try, try again!
Day 3- INDOOR ROCK CLIMBING -We literally climb to new heights in the 14,000 square foot indoor rock climbing gym. Your child will be able to set their own goals; learn knot tying and then the belay system; more often than not surpassing their own expectations.
Day 4: PADDLE DAY: Setting out two by two in a kayak or atop a paddleboard; the children will work together to navigate a map. Collectively analyzing the wind and tides, the skills and ability of the group and make a plan of action to find their way. The take-away from the team building games we've been doing all week are put into action for them to reach their common goal.
Day 5: SKATEBOARDING- Whether your child is already shredding the skatepark or standing on a board for the very first time, our coaches make a point to work individually with every single child to develop and build skills at Marathon Skate park. Breaking up the day with collaborative planning games for a team win!
We end this amazing week with a reflective conversation and pizza party!
